Mamwana Foundation
Restoring Hope to the Vulnerable
Local start with Global impact
Why We Exist
In many parts of Malawi, especially the rural areas, children face numerous challenges and disadvantages. From food insecurity to lack of school fees and basic learning materials - these challenges steal their childhoods. Mamwana Foundation was born out of a desire to stop this cycle. We believe every child deserves education, shelter, and a chance to dream and succeed
Mamwana Group dedicates a portion of income towards the Foundation, but we also need the power of community. If you feel you can contribute, or you’re already working towards the same goal, please get in touch and let’s join hands in supporting the future of Malawi

Nthema Primary School Initiative
At Mamwana Foundation, we believe every child deserves a fair chance in life. For many children in rural communities, education is the only path toward that chance.
We visited Nthema Primary School as part of our first outreach efforts. The school has 2,080 learners, and 140 were identified by school records as vulnerable. As a young organization with limited resources, we began by meeting one-on-one with these students to better understand their realities. From those conversations, we identified 26 children in urgent need of immediate support.
What we learned was difficult, but not unfamiliar. Some of the children are orphans. Others live with a single parent, grandparents, or relatives after their parents left in search of work and never returned. Several told us they eat only once a day. A few quietly shared that they sometimes go two or three days without food. Many do not have proper uniforms, shoes, or school bags. Some rely on old notebooks from previous terms and borrow pens from classmates.
A number of learners miss school occasionally to help their families earn income through piece work. In homes with six or seven children, the oldest often carries responsibilities far beyond their years.
And yet, despite these challenges, they continue to show up for school. They sit in class. They try. They hope.
After identifying the most vulnerable learners, we met with their parents and guardians to explain our mission and seek consent for future support. Some parents arrived barefoot for the meeting. Some were elderly grandmothers who had never been to school themselves and asked how to sign their names. Many simply thanked us for noticing their children.
These children are not lazy or careless. They are navigating poverty with courage. For them, education is not just schooling — it is possibility.
We committed to supply these children with: uniforms, shoes, exercise books, pencils, bags and examination fees for the entire school year, and some of the families will be receiving grocery packages.
This is only the beginning. We are committed to helping children stay in school with dignity and hope, one child at a time.
Kapiri United Initiative
At Mamwana Foundation, we believe that supporting young people goes beyond the classroom. Sport plays a powerful role in building discipline, confidence, and positive direction.
We recently met with the coach of Kapiri United for a constructive discussion about the team’s progress and needs. The coach, who also serves as a Child Protection Officer within the police service, is deeply committed to mentorship. He is doing his best, despite limited resources, sometimes personally buying shoes or basic necessities like soap for players in need. He encourages the young people to prioritise education, especially those who are not currently in school, while supporting those who are.
As a small but meaningful step, Mamwana Foundation donated two footballs to the club. The team currently has 35 young players, training four days a week. However, their equipment is limited. They require additional footballs, full kits, training gear, and a basic first aid kit to better support their activities. We are committed in supporting them with their needs and keeping the youth focused on growth, discipline and positive choices.
Beyond equipment, we discussed long-term sustainability ideas such as savings contributions and small income-generating projects to strengthen the club’s future.
Kapiri United is more than a football team — it is a safe space for mentorship and growth. Our recent support is just the beginning. As our capacity grows, and hopefully with support from future partners and public, we hope to continue investing in initiatives that uplift our community in practical and sustainable ways.
